Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL)

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was established in Feb 1981 through an Act of Parliament, to meet thegrowing demand of a personal mode of transport caused by the lack of an efficient public transport system.

Suzuki Motor Company was chosen from seven prospective partners worldwide. This was due not only to their undisputed leadership in small cars but also to their commitment to actively bring to MUL contemporary technology and Japanese management practices (which had catapulted Japan over USA to the status of the top auto manufacturing country in the world).

A licence and a Joint Venture agreement was signed between Govt of India and Suzuki Motor Company (now Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan) in Oct 1982. The first vehicle produced by maruti was in dec 1983.

The automobile has become a trusted and valuable servant of many people. Engineering design and manufacturing skill have made the modern car simple to operate and economical to maintain. To achieve utmost simplicity of operation and to assure greatest utility, engineers have made many design improvements and have added many new devices from time to time. Self-starter, synchromesh transmission, antilocking braking sensors, MPFI technique, air bag systems, power steering etc. are some of the examples.

The increasing complexity of the machine plus the improving skill with which it is manufactured, has extended a challenge and provided a opportunity for automobile mechanics who, in garages and service stations all over the country do their part to keep cars rolling.

About 15000 separate parts put together to make an automobile. These parts are grouped into several systems. Each system is made up of two or more parts that work together to perform a specific job. The basic parts or systems in automobile are Engine, Power train, Suspension system, Steering system, Braking system, Electrical system, Safety system and body.
