The braking system:

To apply the brakes the driver pushes down on the brake pedal. This sends fluid under pressure to a brake assembly to each wheel. In the brake assembly the fluid forces a stationary part against a rotating part. The friction between the two parts slows or stops the rotating part and wheel. This slows and stops the car.

Many vehicles have an electronic brake system. It prevents wheel from locking during braking. A locked wheel is not very effective in stopping the vehicle. The tyre skids and looses braking ability. The anti lock braking system automatically reduces the pressure on the fluid at each wheel that is about to lock. This provides the most efficient braking.
